off the shelf components

Although the forward closure is no longer produced it is available through RCS. It is highly recommended that you also obtain the data pack as well. I was able to obtain all but two of the components using off the shelf hardware with only minimal changes. The custom components are of course the injector plate and the pyrovalve element. The injector plates were custom made and mentioned in an earlier post, the pyrovalve will be covered later.

The teflon sealing disc was made from 0.015 sheet stock available from eplastics.com, I actually have to credit to my wife who is also an avid crafter. Rather then getting a set of hole punch tools she directed me to a circle cutter that is used is scrapbooking and is less than $10. They come in different dimeters and the one required for the Aerotech hybrid is a 5/8 or 0.625 diameter. Works like a champ and I have enough sheeting to last for long time.

I made a small change to the backup washers for the pyrovalve. The data pack lists a 0.062 thickness in either aluminum or stainless but they are cost prohibitive. Instead I found some stainless 0.031 thickness and will double stack them. They are next to the allen plug on the left. I was also able to track down some stainless internal C-clips in the proper diameter to secure the injector plate located on the right of the picture. Note that original manufacturer was bought out but there is a cross reference if you search by part number. I got all the O-rings washers, and allen plugs from McMaster.

Next up should be pyrovalve tooling and formulation.
